Iraq Moratorium Film Showing
03/20/2008
Otis Public Library, 261 Main Street, Norwich, CT US

A monthly free movie night to be shown in conjunction with the Iraq Moratorium. It is not feasible to hold it on Friday nights (the library closes at 5) we will schedule our free showings as close as possible to the Third Friday of the month.
This month, we will show THE GROUND TRUTH. The filmmaker's subjects are patriotic young Americans - ordinary men and women who heeded the call for military service in Iraq - as they experience recruitment and training, combat, homecoming, and the struggle to reintegrate with families and communities. The terrible conflict in Iraq is a prelude for the even more challenging battles fought by the soldiers returning home - with personal demons, an uncomprehending public, and an indifferent government. As these battles take shape, each soldier becomes a new kind of hero, bearing witness and giving support to other veterans, and learning to fearlessly wield the most powerful weapon of all - the truth. Come see the movie. And come stand at the Iraq Moratorium Vigil on Friday, March 21.

Reports, Updates, Comments
We did show the movie, "The Ground Truth," followed by the 17 minute DVD put out by the IVAW. The movie is a powerful portrayal of what our service people have gone through as a result of this war, and the IVAW dvd links it all with the Winter Soldier event that went on last weekend in DC. Since there was no media coverage for the Winter Soldier event I suggest you all look for some of the testimony on youtube or elsewhere as there were some powerful stories that needed to be told and now need to be heard. The attendance at the movie wasn’t as good as we’d like (about 14 people showed up), but we know this is a holiday weekend with many folks getting started on their own holiday family get together on Thursday as Good Friday is a holiday itself for many people.
