Iraq Moratorium Film Showing

02/13/2008 5:30 PM
Otis Public Library, 261 Main Street, Norwich, CT US

Sponsored by

We have arranged for a monthly free movie night to be shown in Otis Public Library in conjunction with the Iraq Moratorium. Although it is not feasible to hold it on Friday nights (the library closes at 5) we will schedule close our free showings as close as possible to the Third Friday of the month.

This month, on Wednesday the 13th at 5:30 PM we will show NO END IN SIGHT, the 2007 Special Jury Prize award winner from the Sundance Film Festival. This movie examines the manner in which the principal errors of US policy largely created the insurgency and chaos that engulf Iraq today. It will kick off a monthly free movie night where important documentaries will be shown. Come see the movie. And come stand at the Iraq Moratorium Vigil on Friday, the 15th!

Reports, Updates, Comments

Our Iraq Moratorium Movie night was a success. About 20 people showed up (more than we get for our vigil unfortunately) We held that on Wednesday the 13th as the local library, Otis, is not open late on Friday nights. With the kind assistance of Clay Colt, of Donnelly/Colt, we were able to show a 2007 Sundance Film Festive Award Winning Documentary, “No End In Sight”. This DVD is a great eye opener for how the administration waged this war. It doesn’t point fingers at the bogus lies that led us into it, just all the poor planning or scrapping of plans to do right by the occupied. It is not a “Bush Bashing” film, but shows the ineptitude of his administration and why we now are dealing with the awful quagmire of insurgency.

We do feel that a majority of American’s get their news information from the TV (we call it the Lie Box). In depth reading isn’t as popular, although there are some excellent books out there on the facts of the Iraq war and occupation. We feel if some folks who might be sitting on the fence, not really sure what is going on are able to come to a free movie and see a DVD that didn’t run on the corporately owned cinemaplexes, perhaps we could enlighten someone, or open up their minds a bit more to think for themselves or do a bit more research. We plan to do a free movie night every month in conjunction with the Iraq Moratorium Vigil we do on the Third Friday.
