Iraq Moratorium In Glastonbury

02/15/2008 3 PM
Griswold & Main St, Main @ Griswold, Glastonbury, CT US

Sponsored by Greater Glastonbury for Peace and Justice

Dress warmly for an afternoon on the street corner with signs. We will repeat last month's vigil in front of the Bertucci's shopping complex, the signs will focus on the $156 million Glastonbury alone is directly paying for the war, and what the town could have bought instead.

Already there are about 70 people, mainly Glastonbury High School students, and GGPJ adults and members, signed up on a FaceBook group to attend the demonstration! Some of the news stations and papers might show up Friday too.

Reports, Updates, Comments

Greater Glastonbury for Peace and Justice
February was our best Moratorium demonstration in Glastonbury yet! About 40 people dominated a busy downtown corner during rush hour, including 25 students. Our signs focused on how else Glastonbury, CT could have spent $156 million, our share of the war debt (and that's only through fiscal year 2007.)

Students chanted and sang a few Beatles songs as they showed Glastonbury that the youth want the troops home! We had great press coverage, an article in the Hartford Courant and a brief 30 seconds on our favorite channel FOX 61 (yes, appreciated but surprising...)

Here is a video of some Glastonbury High School students singing "Give Peace and Chance" as cars drive by and beep approval!
