Free Movie Night
In our continuing attempts to encourage citizens to join us in protest of the war, we are presenting a Sundance Grand Jury Award winning movie" WHY WE FIGHT".

Is American foreign policy dominated by the idea of military supremacy?
Has the military become too important in American life?
Jarecki's shrewd and intelligent polemic would seem to give an affirmative answer to each of these questions.
Filmed during the Iraq War, this documentary dissects America's military machine with a keen eye to answering the question: Why does America engage in war? Through personal stories of soldiers, government officials, scholars, journalists and innocent victims, the film examines the political and economic interests and ideological factors, past and present, behind American militarism.

Also displayed are shoes and slippers representing the tens of thousands of innocent children and civilians killed in the Iraq war.

Kathy Kelly speaks
Peace North, Veterans for Peace Chapter 153
Kathy Kelly, co-cordinator of Voices for Creative Non-Violence, based in Chicago, is organizing a walk from Chicago to the Republican National Convention in St. Paul this summer.

She helped initiate Voices in the Wilderness, a campaign to end the UN/US sanctions against Iraq in 1996. For bringing “medicine and toys” to Iraq in open violation of the UN/US sanctions, she and other campaign members were fined $20,000, which they’ve refused to pay. Voices in the Wilderness organized 70 delegations to visit Iraq in the period between 1996 and the beginning of the “Operation Shock and Awe” warfare (March 2003). Kelly has been to Iraq 24 times since January 1996, when the campaign began, and has visited Iraqi refugees who have fled their country. She is an inspiring speaker.
