Honk For Peace Rally
Our HONK FOR PEACE rally is usually a lively and noisy event. The rally takes place at the very busy intersection of Foothill Blvd and Haven Ave. We are approaching our one year anniversary of standing at this corner, so motorists begin honking their horns even before they reach the intersection. Perhaps it it is a reflection of the mood of the country...more and more drivers honk their horns and do so with intensity. We welcome anyone from the community to join us. We are there every Friday from 3:30pm - 5:00pm (weather permitting). Signs are always provided. [More info,_Contact,_Updates,_Comments_and_Reports]

Direct Actions in Downtown SF
Iraq Moratorium - SF
On March 19, the Iraq Moratorium Committee - San Francisco will coordinate protest activities outside the office of Sen. Dianne Feinstein outside the Montgomery BART station throughout the morning hours starting at 7:30 am. This is part of the national protest led by United for Peace and Justice and locally against warmakers by Direct Action to Stop the War. We will read the names of the more than 600,000 Iraqis and 4,000 Americans killed in the senseless war as we leaflet commuters during the morning. We invite everyone to join us in a nonviolent spirit as we set a solemn tone. Bring flowers. Poets and musicians are encouraged to blend their work with the reading of the names. Join us for part or all of the morning and into the afternoon. At some point during the lunch hour, numbers of us will take nonviolent direct action and invite you to join us. Despite Sen. Feinstein's words of criticism against the war in Iraq, she has consistently voted to fund the war. She has an additional level of implication: Although the spokesman for investment banker Richard Blum (Sen. Dianne Feinstein's husband) insists "he's not a billionaire. " (San Francisco Chronicle, 5/11/03), he may be now after five years of the occupation of Iraq. As revealed by journalist Peter Byrne of the North Bay Bohemian on 1/24/07, Sen. Feinstein was the chairperson and ranking member of the Military Construction Appropriations (MILCON) subcommittee from 2001 through the end of 2005, and "supervised the appropriation of billions of dollars a year for specific military construction projects. Two defense contractors whose interests were largely controlled by her husband, financier Richard C. Blum, benefited from decisions made by Feinstein as leader of this powerful committee... Write Some Wrongs!
Iraq Moratorium: Cornwall Edition
The Cornwall Moratorium network is asking everyone in town who is concerned about the war in Iraq to take a simple act on March 21, the day of the monthly Iraq Moratorium:
Write our congressman, Rep. Christopher Murphy (and anyone else you would like) a letter telling him WHAT IS IN YOUR HEART ABOUT THE IRAQ WAR and what you want him to do about it. Join us to write letters about the war together.
We’ve now had six monthly “Cornwall Editions” of the Iraq Moratorium. We’ve successfully realized many of the ideas that we discussed at our first meeting.
At the March 21 meeting we will also have a planning discussion of next steps to end the war.
*How do we make opposition to the war effective in the context of the elections?
*How do we make the war impossible to ignore? [More info,_Contact,_Updates,_Comments_and_Reports]

Iraq Moratorium Film Showing
A monthly free movie night to be shown in conjunction with the Iraq Moratorium. It is not feasible to hold it on Friday nights (the library closes at 5) we will schedule our free showings as close as possible to the Third Friday of the month.
This month, we will show THE GROUND TRUTH. The filmmaker's subjects are patriotic young Americans - ordinary men and women who heeded the call for military service in Iraq - as they experience recruitment and training, combat, homecoming, and the struggle to reintegrate with families and communities. The terrible conflict in Iraq is a prelude for the even more challenging battles fought by the soldiers returning home - with personal demons, an uncomprehending public, and an indifferent government. As these battles take shape, each soldier becomes a new kind of hero, bearing witness and giving support to other veterans, and learning to fearlessly wield the most powerful weapon of all - the truth. Come see the movie. And come stand at the Iraq Moratorium Vigil on Friday, March 21. [More info,_Contact,_Updates,_Comments_and_Reports]

Please come and join us as we peacefully vigil with like-minded Americans who want an end to the war and a safe return of our service men and women. Wear black, bring signs, or just stand with us in support of an end to war.
We continue to hope to see a large contingent of Americans who want this war to end and no new war to start. There should be quite the diversity of ages and backgrounds, come stand for a minute or however long you can. WE ARE GROWING!!! AND WE AREN”T GOING AWAY UNTIL THE WAR IS ENDED, AND OUR SOLDIERS ARE HOME. Politicians and fellow citizens take notice!

Chattanooga Peace March
United for Democracy and Justice
United for Democracy and Justice will host a peace march and rally in downtown Chattanooga on Saturday, March 22. The event is part of a global week of action marking the fifth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq and is the fourth year Chattanoogans have gathered to demand an end to the occupation. The day's activities will start at 1 p.m. with a march from Coolidge Park to Miller Park, followed by a rally at 2 p.m.
The slogan for this year's event, "Remembering the Falling, the Fallen, and the Forgotten", is intended to focus attention on those who have suffered as a result of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq: U.S. service personnel, the people of Iraq, and American beneficiaries of state services.
Keynote speaker will be Sgt. Herbert Reed, a Vietnam veteran and former member of the 442nd Military Police Company of the New York Army National Guard. Reed has suffered a myriad of serious health problems since having been exposed to depleted uranium (DU) munitions contamination in Iraq, where he was helping coordinate military prison construction in the southern region of Al Samawa. As a member of the International Coalition to Ban Uranium Weapons, he met with Costa Rican President Oscar Arias in 2007. His story has been carried by news outlets such as Democracy Now! and MSNBC.
Other confirmed speakers include family counselor Kathleen Stulce and activist Chris Lugo.

Rally & March To End the War
Milwaukee Coalition for a Just Peace
To mark the 5th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, the Milwaukee Coalition for a Just Peace will sponsor a rally and march at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, with a rally at O'Donnell Park, at the east end of Wisconsin Avenue (near the orange sunburst sculpture). Speakers will include Rep. Gwen Moore, Father Simon Harak of Marquette's Center for Peacemaking, and an Iraq veteran. A march to nearby Veterans Park on the lakefront, while names of American and Iraqi dead are read, will follow. There will be a short program there at Veterans Park before the crowd disperses. Last year about 1,000 people attended and marched up Wisconsin Avenue. Join us this year.
Iraq Moratorium volunteers will participate, leaflet participants to invite them to the Iraq Moratorium vigil on March 21, and collect signatures on the Iraq Moratorium pledge. [More info,_Contact,_Updates,_Comments_and_Reports]

Picket for Peace
Join the stalwart for this special Moratorium event. Please feel free to join, if interested, in nonviolent witness of all those affected by the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and in reflection on the many costs (physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual, social, environmental, etc.) of living in a society rooted in militarism. In keeping with the practice of nonviolence and in order to respect the dignity of all, we ask that any posters carried reflect peace and not sarcasm or political attacks. Peace to all.
